Inspired by William Blake’s “A Poison Tree.”
I kept my anger in my breast;
It grew by night and gave no rest.
I brought it to the wounded King;
He heard, and took away its sting.
I fed my lust in secret flame;
It left me cold and clothed in shame.
I brought it to the wounded King;
He heard, and took away its sting.
I sought my worth in others’ eyes;
And shaped my heart to fit their lies.
I brought it to the wounded King;
He heard, and took away its sting.
